Want to travel in a hurry ? Charter your own plane.
You read it right. In the not so distant future, if you need to get to some place in a hurry and don’t want to go through the trouble of looking for a suitable date, time and mode of travel, just charter your own aircraft. With the aviation sector growing by leaps and bounds with showing no signs of leveling out in the near future, new avenues for private charter plane operators have been thrown open. Under the BJP government at the centre, the aviation industry has received the much needed push in the form of UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagarik) which is one of the pet projects of our Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi.
With air travel made more affordable than ever Indian Aviation Industry has already moved to the third place in terms of domestic passenger traffic, beating Japan as per industry reports. India’s domestic air passenger traffic stood at a staggering100 million in 2016 with only the US (719 million) and China (436 million) ahead.
Not to be left behind, the startup industry too sensing an opportunity in the aviation industry has thrown up few prominent startups such as BookMyCharters, JetSetGo and JetSmart who are offering the affluent more choices in the private airline market to choose from. Intelligently, these startups are not only addressing the demands of metropolitan cities or major Tier-I cities like Delhi, Chennai and Hyderabad but also targeting even much smaller Tier-II and Tier-III cities as well.
Presently in India, the charter market is only at seven locations which include the four metros. The lack of operating space and higher operational costs has been restricting the growth of these private players. More than 40 under-served /un-served regional airports have been revived by the Ministry of Civil Aviation with more to come.
However, with the conservative mindset, it may take some time before the Indian families open up to the idea of chartering the own plane for fulfilling their travel needs. Though the prevailing rates may seem on the higher side owing to the fact that business is limited and operating costs are high. In the days to come with an increase in business, the rates may see further cut and a private charter jet may not be out of reach of the common man too. Waiting fingers crossed.
